Group Art Therapy a Snapshot

Hi I would like to show you a snapshot of a group art therapy session. The general idea is to not get caught up in creating a finished art work, no that's for Art Classes (which I also instruct). It is all about the expression that the medium offers you to make. So I like to start my sessions with some creative, expressive line marking. People can then share the parts of their experimenting that they like to inspire each other.

The main body of the session will include a relaxation meditation to calm the central nervous system and it may include a guided visualisation meditation as the prompt to engage the participants in inner exploration of the chosen topic. This is then expressed in an art form, or expressive use of medium, colour, line and symbols. The participants are asked some prompting questions to journal what has come up in their art, in one-on-one sessions this is can be done verbally. The group is then invited to share if they wish.

Other Prompts that I use in a session include making intension dolls, collage, songs, poems and mind maps.

Things that are bought up in the session give me a direction for the next session. The session will conclude with a summary and some breath work and a cupper for anyone interested.
